What is the Alexander Technique?
The Alexander Technique has been around for over 120 years and is many things to many people. For some it’s a way to manage pain and repetitive strain, perhaps when they’ve tried everything else. For others it’s a way to excel in the performing arts; the technique is appreciated by musicians, actors and dancers and finds a place in many training courses for these fields. There are those who engage with the Alexander Technique for embodied mindfulness and conscious awareness, and still others who find relief from all kinds of health conditions and the demands of life.
What happens during a session?
I work with the Alexander Technique in a classic way, so the first part of a session is practicing simple movements such as turning your head, going onto your toes, sitting, standing and transitioning from sitting to standing and standing to sitting. For the second part of the session you will be lying down on a table as I gently move different parts of your body.
How does it work?
With my gentle hands on guidance, your nervous system reactivity is reduced, allowing more fluidity and freedom. Through a process of co-regulation your body-mind progressively recovers a more harmonious state, that promotes natural healing.
